What to see at FRINGE WORLD Perth

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! It’s FRINGE time!

Although it’s sadly another year without international acts joining in on the fringe fun, there’s still a bountiful supply of shows to select from. As great as this abundance of choice is, it can get overwhelming searching through pages for the right show. Lucky for you, we’ve done all the hard work and without further ado, these are our top picks for Perth Fringe World 2022!

Cabaret & Variety

Worship – Memento Vivere

If a scorching hot trailer full of suspense won’t sell you a show, will word of mouth? Worship – Memento Vivere comes highly recommended as a show returning to Fringe World after a successful 2021 season. The show’s description teases a spiritual experience as the cast, takes the audience “through the darker stages of death and afterlife before reaching a communal and enlightening rebirth!”

Ginava’s Messy Friends

Frequent patrons of The Court and Connections will be familiar with the glittery explosion of talent that is performance artist, Ginava. As the head of GENDERMESS (“a collective of club kids, gender f*** cross dressers, drag queens and performance artists.”), Ginava has created their own space in the Perth performance scene, with fully immersive and highly visceral shows that certainly have the WOW factor.

Circus

YUCK Circus

A recent hit on the Fringe scene, YUCK Circus is presented by seven femme-identifying performers who bring a fresh take comedic take to circus. This West Aussie production company has been making Perth proud with rave reviews across the country and internationally. YUCK brings together some of our favourite Aussie icons (think vegemite and Kath and Kim), humour and some high-flying acrobatics.

Sinsuality: Make it Reign

What sinful secrets will you find in this tantalising mix of circus and performance art? Winners of Fringe World’s Best Circus Award 2017, Sinsuality is another staple show of Perth Fringe; bringing together some of our city’s best known performers such as Boylesque performer Karl Kayoss and Her Royal Highness (and Fringe Queen) BarbieQ. Comedy

All Day Breakfast with Sophie and Thien

All Day Breakfast with Sophie and Thien sells itself alone on its fun promotional imagery but will certainly appeal to those who can’t pass up the combo of music and comedy. This food themed show will not feature a breakfast buffet, which is slightly disappointing, but will contain “wholesome home-cooked comedy” which will hopefully be enough to appease the appetite of hungry audiences.

PLASTICA FANTASTICA

How would you feel if you found out that you’re allergic to the thing you love the most? And what if that favourite thing was plastic?! That’s the premise of Plastica Fantastic, an award-winning show which mixes comedy and cabaret to inspire and excite environmental conservation.

Leaving the night up to chance, each performance will contain different jazz/pop-fused versions of favourite songs combined with a riveting story to go along with each tune.
