Briefs: The Works “a jaw-dropping, campy night”

Briefs: The Works is a jaw-dropping, campy night out with some of Fringe’s most talented performers.

As I took my seat in the Icecream Factory Warehouse (which was dressed up to emulate the charm of a spiegeltent), I immediately felt at ease knowing I was in for a good show. After 13 years as Perth Fringe regulars, the cast of Briefs truly know their craft and their audience.

This show is a rollercoaster; bouncing between moody, sensual performances and absurdist clownery. Initially this was a little jarring, but once I settled in, I found myself eagerly awaiting what surprises were coming next. I don’t want to give too much away and spoil the magic, but you can expect to see acrobatics, burlesque, comedy, drag, dance, and everything in between.

Briefs: The Works

The cast is full of star power. Each member is incredibly talented, bringing both a lot of skill and character to their individual performances. But there is something special in seeing everyone come together on stage. The opening number featuring feather fans set the tone of the night – tight choreography tied with a level of unseriousness that is nothing short of joyful.

If, like me, you’ve got a fear of audience participation, be warned – both the front rows and the raffle winner will be in the “splash zone”, whether it be through close encounters with performers, literal water, or… bananas. It’s also definitely 18+, one to attend with friends or family who aren’t afraid of a risque show.

Briefs: The Works is a sparkly, energetic experience that has all the confidence of a world class show, without sacrificing the quirkiness that makes Fringe special.

Briefs: The Works is on at Fringe World from Wed, 21 Jan – Sun, 15 Feb.
