As fringe descends upon our boodja once again the inevitable BRIEFS infestation has returned. BRIEFS Knickers brings all the hallmarks you’d expect from a Briefs Factory show. This world premiere is MC’d by the undoubtedly attractive Tash York, who has an indomitable presence that fills the Aurora Spiegletent. With a tinge of self-deprecation that only feels humble in Perth when presented by a Queenslander, she’s the immaculate conception of modesty. Alongside Tash we have a stellar lineup of performers, but the New Caledonian Crazy Brownie stole the show for me.
Starting her number in chains and a hessian bag dress, it was the narrative and characterisation that really struck me. I didn’t think I would cry at a burlesque show. It was a poignant piece that evoked unpleasant truths about Australia’s historical Pacific Islander slave trade.

Another standout of the show was Crystal Stacey’s hoop number which gave early naughties hip hop vibes. Imagine Missy Elliot crossed with sporty spice swirling around on stage. How many peoples’ gay awakening was I just in the room for?
Knickers brings the cabaret with a tinge of circus in all forms of Femme. The Briefs Factory sure know how to pick ‘em.
