Carrying a fake cigarette in the same hand as her microphone, our host Nanna has a tall grey beehive of hair and a dirty sense of humour.
If you thought the game of Bingo was out of fashion, think again! Old is the new young at the Perth Town Hall, as quite a few audience members at Nanna Bingo last night sported grey wigs, large hats, and Dame Edna spectacles on chains, and they were the rowdiest of the bunch.
Nanna Bingo does what it says on the tin, the show is literally a game of Bingo, hosted by drag queen Nanna who swaps out the traditional rhymes (eighty-five – staying alive) for stories, fun facts, and groan-inducing puns. The links between the numbers and the stories are tenuous at best and wildly creative, giving Nanna the opportunity to banter with members of the audience (sorry, the competitors) and with her assistant, Dale. Dale was on the music for in between calls, keeping the party atmosphere alive and often finishing Nanna’s punchline for her with a song.
Sadly I was not the winner of the coveted box of chocolates or the pair of floral knickers that went to second place, but watching Nanna poke fun at audience members in her neon pink bum bag was prize in itself.
If you reckon you can do better than me, Nanna Bingo is playing at Perth Town Hall until Sunday 18th February.
