The Enchanting World of Villains with Noah Humich

Sometimes it feels a little good to be bad and revel in the devilishly delightful. Perth based tenor and director Noah Humich has brought together some of musical theatre and opera’s greatest villains to create an enchanting concert experience. With music from Les Miserables, Hansel and Gretel, Samson and Delilah, Little Shop of Horrors, and more, the show will take place as the ultimate Halloween experience in the abandoned Liberty Theatre. Noah gave Magazine 6000 an insight into what he’s creating and what he loves about villains.

What do you love about Villains as characters? What makes them more fascinating than the heroes?

Villains are always so fun to watch and to play. I think they’re really interesting, because often times they are presented with moral dilemmas, and choose in the end the less moral option, which sometimes is quite justified. So to understand their thought process and delve into their unique situations is always thrilling. But sometimes, they’re just plain evil, and that is also very exciting to delve into. I wouldn’t say they are more fascinating than heroes, but I would say more often than not in music, they get the best songs!

Tell us about some of the villains we’ll be meeting in the show.

We get to meet some amazing villains in our concert, well known and lesser well know. Taking us through the whole journey of the concert will actually be one of them, and you’ll just have to wait to find out who that is. We set out on a journey to represent a wide array of different characters, from The Witches in Hansel and Gretel and Into The Woods, Thenadier from Les Miserables, Don Giovianni from Don Giovanni and the Dentist from Little Shop of Horrors, to name drop just a few…

You’ve created this show to make classical music more accessible to a new generation. How does the format and villain concept lean into this?

The main focus of this show isn’t necessarily to force people to listen to some classical music. It’s more concept based, and there’s really no one exploring these darker themes like Enchanted Encounters does. What we’re really doing is presenting a really wide range of music based on a fantastically strong theme, and ignoring the characters from Opera would be a sin because the music and stories are so incredible. Indirectly, we’re getting people involved in Classical Music, but if that’s not your thing, we have a whole heap of Contemporary Music and Music Theatre to get you on board!

What can you tell us about the performers and creatives onboard for this show?

I can honestly say we have some absolutely outstanding performers in this show. Sam Claxton for example has just returned from Sydney where he was selected as a finalist for the Australian Singing Competition; Brett Peart, who is a co-creator on this show is a principal artist with West Australian Opera, as is Brigitte Heuser, who has had her own international opera career, and we of course also have Shoreina Pereira, who has sung in leading roles on London’s West End for goodness’ sake. Really the talent we have in this show doesn’t get any higher, and I am extremely proud to present these wonderful, world class artists. We have some really incredible and outstanding talent in Perth and it’s my pleasure to present them to you.

Describe the show in five words…

Ooh this is a tricky one.

Immersive, spooky, evil and sometimes funny… Does that count haha?

Enchanted Encounters is on at The Liberty Theatre from Thursday 1st October – Saturday 3rd October 2026, 7:30pm – 9pm
